The deep lake and the fast streams — two kinds of fishing, a few minutes apart.
The Uz Valley has both of the angler's worlds: Poiana Uzului Lake — a well-known recreational fishing spot, up to 90 metres deep — and the mountain streams: the Uz, Bârzăuța and Bașca, with cold, fast water and trout.
Poiana Uzului Lake is the favourite spot of the area's anglers and is on the ANPA list of recreational fishing waters. You need the ANPA recreational fishing permit and a membership card — both issued through AJVPS Bacău (ajvpsbc.ro). As the lake is also a drinking-water source, keep to the permitted zones and the posted rules; for up-to-date details, ask AJVPS Bacău or your hosts.
The Uz and its tributaries — the Bârzăuța, the Bașca — are classic mountain waters: pools, rock steps, light filtering through the alders. Fishing here means a lot of walking and precise casting. The mountain waters are managed as salmonid waters: ANPA permit + AJVPS card, and you must respect the closed seasons announced each year — check the current season with AJVPS Bacău before you set out.
Evenings at the guesthouse have saved many an angler. The barbecue, the cauldron and the hearth in the gazebo stand ready.
From Cabana Marisa you are on the shore before the mist lifts.
